Injection Moulding Machine for Irrigation Taps
Irrigation taps, the plastic outlets used to draw or shut off water on farm lines and tanks, are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines from PP, glass-filled PP and POM. Machine size follows the body and handle moulds, the cores for the threaded inlet and outlet, and total shot weight. Spindle threads need the tightest dimensional control.
Tap moulding is a set of several moulds, from a heavy glass-filled body to a small POM spindle, so selection often covers two machine sizes. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for irrigation tap components and can match each mould to a model.
Manufacturing Irrigation Taps?
Send the tap body, spindle and handle details with your material choice, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine for each part.
Machine Requirements for Irrigation Tap Moulding
A tap is opened and closed many times in dusty, sunlit conditions, so the moulding has to deliver:
- Clean spindle threads with no flash or ovality
- Flat, sink-free washer seat inside the body
- Unscrewing or collapsible cores for internal threads
- Wear-resistant barrel for glass-filled PP bodies
- Controlled mould temperature to limit POM shrinkage on spindles
- UV stabilised grades for taps left in the field
Recommended Machine for Irrigation Taps
Tap parts differ widely in size. Spindles, handles and small washers run in multi-cavity moulds on the E Series (75-180 T). Glass-filled bodies with threaded ends and side cores are heavier shots and often move to the C Series (140-320 T) or, for large taps and high cavity tools, the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Answers to the questions tap makers raise most with our engineers.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Irrigation Taps?
Most tap assemblies need more than one machine size. Small spindle and handle tools sit in the E Series, while heavier body moulds are matched to the C or H Series by shot weight and mould size.Which Material Suits Each Part of an Irrigation Tap?
Bodies are often PP or glass-filled PP for stiffness at the threads. Spindles and other moving parts are often POM for low friction and wear. Handles can be plain PP with a colour masterbatch.Do Irrigation Taps Need UV Resistance?
Taps on field lines and tanks stay in direct sun, so UV stabilised grades or a UV masterbatch help stop the plastic turning brittle and chalky. Masterbatch dosing must stay steady from shot to shot.
What Clamping Force Does a Tap Body Mould Need?
Clamping force is worked out from the projected area of cavities and runner, the melt pressure of the grade and a safety factor. Glass-filled PP usually fills at higher injection pressure, which raises the requirement. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Irrigation Tap?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of the body, spindle and handle, the materials, part weights, mould sizes, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend the machines.Does the Machine Suit Other Irrigation Valve Parts Too?
Yes, with mould size in mind. Irrigation valves, small irrigation cocks, poultry nipple drinkers and drip line flush valves use similar grades and threaded features.
