Injection Moulding Machine for Lateral Fittings

Lateral fittings such as joiners, tees, elbows and start connectors are made on horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity moulds, from PP, glass-reinforced PP or PE. Machine size depends on cavity count, the core pulls each tee or elbow needs and the shot weight of the full set. Barb geometry matters most, since it decides grip and leakage.

Selection for lateral fittings looks at mould width for side cores, clean filling of sharp barbs and screw wear when glass-filled PP is run. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for lateral fitting production and can recommend a configuration for your fitting range.

Machine Requirements for Lateral Fitting Moulding

Each fitting has to grip the lateral pipe and seal without clamps, which puts the focus on these points:

  • Sharp, fully filled barbs with no flash on ridges
  • Core pulls for the side branch of tees and elbows
  • Wear-resistant screw and barrel for glass-reinforced PP
  • Even cavity balance so every barb fills the same
  • Clean ejection off barbed cores without stress whitening
  • Mould area that fits wide side-action tools

Recommended Machine for Lateral Fittings

Joiners and end plugs with straight cores suit the E Series (75-180 T) at high cavity counts. Tee and elbow moulds with side actions are wider and heavier for the same number of cavities, which moves them up to the H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T), especially in glass-reinforced PP.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Points drip fitting makers raise most when planning new moulds and machines.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Lateral Fittings?
Most lateral fitting work sits in the E Series. Tee and elbow tools with side cores, higher cavity counts or glass-reinforced grades may need the larger platens and shot capacity of the C or H Series.
  • How Are Tees and Elbows Moulded With Side Branches?
The main bore is formed by the mould opening and the branch by a core pull, either on an angle pin or a hydraulic cylinder. Hydraulic core pulls need core sequence control on the machine.
  • Does Glass-Reinforced PP Need a Different Screw?
Glass fibre wears a standard screw, check ring and barrel faster. A bimetallic barrel and wear-resistant screw are advised, along with lower back pressure to limit fibre breakage.
  • Why Do Barbed Fittings Leak After Assembly?
Leaks usually trace to flash or a parting line step on the barb, short shots at the barb tip, or a weld line across the sealing face. Gate position, venting and mould condition are checked first.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Lateral Fitting?
Yes. Share the fitting drawings or samples, the material grade, part weight, mould size, cavity count and monthly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Drip System Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould drip takeoffs, barb connectors, drip line end caps and drip line flush valves, provided the mould fits the platen and tie-bar spacing.
