Injection Moulding Machine for Bell Housings and Covers

Plastic bicycle bell housings and covers are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually from ABS for glossy, coloured parts and PP for clamp bases. Cavity count, projected area and shot weight set machine size. A clean cosmetic surface, free of flow lines and sink above the screw bosses, is the main process point.

Bell parts are small and cosmetic, so selection looks at repeatable small shots, mould temperature control for gloss and quick colour changes. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for bell housings, covers and bases and can advise on a configuration for your mould.

Machine Requirements for Bell Housing and Cover Moulding

Bell housings carry the striker mechanism and are on show at the handlebar, so fit and finish both count. Points to check:

  • Mould temperature control for a gloss ABS face
  • Gate placement that hides flow lines on the dome
  • Holding pressure against sink above screw bosses
  • Fast purge and colour change between bell colours
  • Snap-fit and boss features for the striker mechanism
  • ABS drying to prevent splay on cosmetic faces

Recommended Machine for Bell Housings and Covers

Bell housings, covers and clamp bases are small parts, and multi-cavity moulds for them often fit the E Series (75-180 T). High cavity tools, larger novelty bells or moulds with side actions for clamp undercuts can move to the H Series (120-350 T), where mould space and opening stroke give more room.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What bell and accessory makers ask before buying a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Bell Housings and Covers?
Small E Series machines handle many bell housing and cover moulds. The H Series suits high cavity tools or moulds with side actions, where platen space and opening stroke matter more than clamping force.
  • How Do You Get a Glossy Bell Cover Without Flow Marks?
A polished cavity, steady mould temperature, dry ABS and a gate hidden on the underside give an even gloss. Injection speed is set so the melt front moves smoothly across the dome without hesitation marks.
  • Can the Bell Be Moulded in Many Colours?
Yes. Colour is usually added with masterbatch at the hopper. Purging the barrel well between colours, and running light to dark shades where possible, cuts scrap during changeovers.
  • Does the Clamp Base Need Side Actions?
Clamp bases with undercuts, screw slots or hinge features can need slides or core pulls in the mould. These add mould width and height, which affects which machine the tool fits.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Bell Housing or Cover?
Yes. Share the housing and cover drawings or samples, materials, colours, part weights, cavities, mould size and quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Handlebar Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould handle grips, brake and shift levers, cycle reflectors and cable end caps, subject to the mould and material.
