Injection Moulding Machine for Cycle Mudguards

Cycle mudguards are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually in PP, with ABS for glossy guards and nylon for some clips and brackets. Mould length against tie-bar spacing, the projected area of the curved blade and flow length from the gate decide machine size. Keeping the long, thin blade straight after ejection is the main process point.

Long mudguard moulds need room between the tie-bars, enough injection speed to fill the blade end and steady cooling. Pratishna Engineers offers horizontal injection moulding machines for full-length and clip-on mudguards and will propose a configuration to suit your tool.

Machine Requirements for Cycle Mudguard Moulding

Mudguards are long and thin, so mould fit and flow length matter more than shot weight. The main points are:

  • Tie-bar spacing and platen size that take long moulds
  • Injection speed to fill the thin blade end
  • Even mould cooling to keep the blade straight
  • Opening stroke for the curved profile to eject cleanly
  • UV stabilised PP and masterbatch for outdoor colour
  • Clean venting at the blade tip against burn marks

Recommended Machine for Cycle Mudguards

Clip-on rear guards and short front guards fit comfortably on the E Series (75-180 T). Full-length mudguards are mostly a question of mould length and opening, so they often go to the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T), where the larger platens give room for the longer tool.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What mudguard makers usually ask us before ordering a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Cycle Mudguards?
Mudguard size sets the series. Short and clip-on guards usually run on the E Series, and full-length guards for adult cycles often need the C or H Series because the mould must fit between the tie-bars.
  • Why Do Long Mudguards Warp After Moulding?
Uneven cooling and flow orientation along the blade make one side shrink more than the other, so the guard bows. Balanced water channels, a well-placed gate, enough cooling time and a support fixture after ejection help keep the profile true.
  • Which Material Suits a Cycle Mudguard?
PP is common because it flexes without cracking when the guard is knocked. ABS gives a stiffer, glossier guard that takes paint well, and nylon can be used for clips and stay brackets that carry load.
  • Does the Mudguard Need UV Stabiliser?
For guards that stay outdoors, yes. UV stabiliser in the PP compound or masterbatch slows fading and surface chalking. Dose the masterbatch evenly at the hopper so colour stays consistent across a long production run.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Cycle Mudguard?
Yes. Share the mudguard drawing or sample, length and profile, material, mould dimensions, cavities and target quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Cycle Body Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould chain guards, saddle base shells, water bottle cages and bicycle pedals, depending on the mould size and material.
