Injection Moulding Machine for Derailleur Bodies and Pulleys
Derailleur bodies and pulley wheels are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with glass-filled nylon for load-bearing bodies and POM for low-friction pulleys. Cavity count, shot weight and any metal bush or pivot inserts set machine size. For pulleys, the main process point is roundness and tooth accuracy, which depend on centre gating, even cooling and steady holding pressure.
Derailleur parts sit in the drivetrain, so machine selection favours repeatable shots, close temperature control and room for inserts. Pratishna Engineers offers horizontal injection moulding machines for derailleur bodies, cages and pulleys and can recommend a configuration from your part list.

Machine Requirements for Derailleur Body and Pulley Moulding
Pulleys run against the chain and bodies carry spring and cable loads, so dimensional control matters on both. Check:
- Centre or multi-point gating for round pulley wheels
- Holding pressure control against voids in thick hubs
- Even mould cooling so pulley teeth stay true
- Abrasion-resistant screw for glass-filled body grades
- Insert handling for pivot pins and metal bushes
- Dry nylon and short POM residence time
Recommended Machine for Derailleur Bodies and Pulleys
Pulley wheels are small and often run in multi-cavity moulds on the E Series (75-180 T). Derailleur bodies are larger and may carry inserts, so they can stay on the E Series or move to the C Series (140-320 T) for more cavities. Bigger tools with several inserts per shot suit the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Common questions from drivetrain part makers.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Derailleur Bodies and Pulleys?
The E Series covers many pulley and small body moulds. Bodies with inserts or higher cavity counts can go to the C or H Series. The choice also depends on how well barrel size matches the small POM and nylon shots. How Is Pulley Roundness Controlled?
Gating at the centre or at evenly spaced points lets the melt fill the wheel evenly, so shrinkage is uniform. Balanced cooling, a cored hub and consistent holding pressure keep the teeth and bore concentric. Why Do POM Pulleys Show Voids or Sink?
POM shrinks heavily as it solidifies, so thick hubs can form internal voids or surface sink. Coring out the hub, a gate large enough to pack the part and enough holding time all help.
Can Bearings or Bushes Be Moulded In?
Metal bushes and pivot pins can be placed in the mould as inserts on some designs. Others mould a plain bore and press in a bearing later, which needs close control of bore size and shrinkage. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Derailleur Parts?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of the body and pulley, materials, part weights, inserts, cavities, mould sizes and quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Bicycle Drivetrain Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould brake and shift levers, chain guards, cable end caps and pedal bodies, subject to the mould and material.
