Injection Moulding Machine for Saddle Base Shells
Saddle base shells are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines in glass-filled nylon or PP, forming the rigid seat body that takes the rails, foam and cover. Projected area of the shell, mould depth and shot weight decide machine size. Controlling warpage of the curved shell and sink at the thick rail mounting points is the main process concern.
Saddle shells are large for a bicycle part, so platen size, opening stroke and steady cooling count as much as tonnage. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for saddle bases and can recommend a configuration based on your shell size, material and mould.

Machine Requirements for Saddle Base Shell Moulding
A saddle shell is a broad, curved part with heavy rail mounts at the nose and rear, and both affect machine choice. Points to check:
- Platen size and opening stroke for deep shell moulds
- Shot weight matched to the full shell and runner
- Cored-out rail sockets to limit sink and voids
- Balanced cooling against warpage of the curved shell
- Wear-resistant screw for glass-filled nylon
- Clean cosmetic underside where the shell stays visible
Recommended Machine for Saddle Base Shells
Kids’ and compact saddle shells can run on the E Series (75-180 T). Adult and comfort saddles with wide shells and deeper moulds usually need a C Series (140-320 T) machine, with the H Series (120-350 T) as the alternative where platen area and opening stroke suit the tool. Glass-filled grades need an abrasion-resistant screw and barrel either way.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
What saddle makers usually want to know before buying a machine.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Saddle Base Shells?
Compact shells for kids’ cycles often fit the E Series. Adult saddle shells, being wider and deeper, are usually matched to the C or H Series, with the final choice set by mould size and opening stroke. How Are the Saddle Rails Attached to the Shell?
Shells carry moulded sockets or pockets at the nose and rear, and the metal rails are pressed or clipped in after moulding. These thick areas need coring and good holding pressure so they do not sink or hold voids. Why Does a Glass-Filled Saddle Shell Warp?
Glass fibres line up with the flow and shrink less along their length than across it, so a curved shell can twist. Gate position, balanced cooling and even wall thickness reduce the effect.
Does the Saddle Mould Need a Large Opening Stroke?
A deep, curved shell needs enough opening to clear the core and be picked out. Check the mould height and the opening the part needs against the machine before ordering. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Saddle Base Shell?
Yes. Share the shell drawing or sample, material grade, part weight, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Larger Bicycle Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould cycle mudguards, chain guards, bicycle pedals and water bottle cages, subject to the mould and material.
