Injection Moulding Machine for Roll-on Balls, Ball Seats and Collars

Roll-on balls, ball seats and collars or caps are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity moulds, from POM, PP and HDPE. Cavity count and the shot weight of a solid ball set the machine size, with mould size following the cap. Shrinkage control on the seat that grips the ball matters most.

Machine selection for roll-on parts centres on repeatable shot and hold for the ball and seat sizes, and multi-cavity moulds for the caps. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for roll-on balls, seats, collars and caps and can recommend a configuration.

Moulding Roll-on Balls and Collars?

Share the ball size, seat and cap drawings and materials, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine for each mould.

Machine Requirements for Roll-on Ball and Collar Moulding

The ball has to stay in the seat yet roll freely, so the requirements turn on fit more than tonnage:

  • Stable hold pressure for a void-free solid ball
  • Tight shrinkage control on the ball seat bore
  • Clean, low parting line and gate on the sphere
  • High-cavity moulds for seats, collars and caps
  • Thread and seal bead fit between cap and collar
  • Separate process settings for POM balls and PP housings

Recommended Machine for Roll-on Balls and Collars

All four parts are small, so the machine follows cavity count and shot weight rather than part size. The E Series (75-180 T) suits ball, seat and collar moulds and most cap tools. High-cavity cap moulds, or family tools with larger plates, move to the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions that come up most when planning roll-on component moulds.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Roll-on Balls and Collars?
A horizontal machine in the lower tonnage range is usual. E Series machines cover balls, seats, collars and most caps, and the H Series is used when a cap mould has many cavities or large plates.
  • Why Does the Ball Fall Out or Refuse to Roll?
Retention is an interference fit between the ball and the seat lips, and a small shrinkage shift on either part moves it from loose to tight. Steady mould temperature, hold pressure and cooling time on both moulds keep the fit repeatable.
  • Which Material Pairing Is Used for Roll-on Parts?
A POM ball running in a PP seat and collar is the usual pairing, since the two plastics slide well against each other. HDPE is used for some seats and caps. POM needs its own temperature profile and a clean purge between materials.
  • Is the Roll-on Bottle Body Moulded on the Same Machine?
Usually not. Roll-on bottle bodies are normally blow moulded, a different process. Only the ball, seat, collar and cap are injection moulded, and their fit to the bottle neck is set in the mould design.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Roll-on Parts?
Yes. Share the ball, seat, collar and cap drawings or samples, materials, part weights, mould sizes, cavity counts and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend suitable machines.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Cosmetic Closure Parts Too?
Yes. Machines of this class can also mould caps and closures for cosmetic bottles, lotion pump parts, deodorant stick caps and lipstick case parts, subject to the mould.
