Injection Moulding Machine for Drone Propellers and Propeller Guards

Drone propellers and propeller guards are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from glass-filled PA6 or PA66, carbon-filled PA6 and, for some guards, PC. Blade count per mould and guard footprint set the machine size. Balance matters most: a hub gate and steady fibre orientation along each blade keep matched pairs within weight.

Machine selection for propellers centres on shot-to-shot repeatability, so each blade weighs the same, and on clamp size for wide guard rings. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for drone propellers and guards and can recommend a configuration for your design.

Machine Requirements for Drone Propeller Moulding

Propellers are balance-critical and guards are wide but light, so the machine choice turns on these points:

  • Hub gating for even fibre orientation along each blade
  • Flash-free tips and trailing edges for flight safety
  • Repeatable shot weight so matched pairs balance
  • Wear-resistant screw and barrel for glass or carbon fill
  • Platen and tie-bar space for wide guard ring moulds
  • Moisture control by drying nylon before moulding

Recommended Machine for Drone Propellers

Propellers are small, so clockwise and counter-clockwise blades can run together in one mould on the E Series (75-180 T). Guards cover a wide footprint with little shot weight, so footprint rather than material volume sets tonnage. A larger guard mould may call for a C Series (140-320 T) machine, and the widest rings for the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What buyers of propeller and guard moulds usually want to know before they order a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Drone Propellers and Guards?
Propeller moulds usually sit in the E Series. Guard moulds take more platen space for their size, so a large ring guard can move up to the C or H Series even though the part itself is light.
  • Are Drone Propellers Injection Moulded or Machined?
Injection moulding is the volume route for propellers. Only high-end racing and cinema props are usually machined from carbon composite. Moulded fibre-filled nylon props give consistent blades at a lower cost per pair.
  • How Are Propellers Kept in Balance After Moulding?
Balance comes from mould and process together. Balanced cavities, a hub gate, steady holding pressure and even cooling keep blade weight and shape the same, and pairs are often checked on a balancer after moulding.
  • Why Is Flash a Reject on a Propeller?
Flash at the tip or trailing edge changes blade shape and balance, and it can break away in flight. Buyers treat it as a flight-safety reject, so parting line fit and clamp force must hold across the whole run.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Drone Propeller?
Yes. Share the propeller or guard drawing, blade count, material, part weight, mould size, cavities per mould and volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Drone Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can make drone frames and motor mounts, battery cowlings, payload bay covers and gimbal housings, depending on the mould and material.
