Injection Moulding Machine for Portable and Field Battery Pack Housings

Portable and field battery pack housings are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines, using FR PC/ABS, FR PP, PC or glass-filled PA6. Housing size and wall section set the clamp force and shot weight. Holding the flame-retardant grade within its melt temperature and residence limits matters most, so the FR package survives moulding.

Machine selection for these housings focuses on controlled melt temperature for flame-retardant grades, consistent shrinkage for ultrasonic weld joints and clamp size for the case halves. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for battery pack housings and can recommend a configuration for your pack.

Share your housing drawing, FR grade and weld joint design, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable injection moulding machine.

Machine Requirements for Battery Pack Housing Moulding

Battery housings sit around cells in vibrating, rough-handled kit, so the machine must support these needs:

  • Melt temperature control that protects flame-retardant additives
  • Short residence time to avoid FR grade degradation
  • Consistent shrinkage for ultrasonic weld joint fit
  • Virgin material without regrind for weld-critical halves
  • Ribbed walls that stay rigid without adding mass
  • Drying of PC/ABS, PC and PA6 before moulding

Recommended Machine for Battery Pack Housings

Small packs and terminal covers suit the E Series (75-180 T). Larger housings for radio or field equipment batteries, with deep halves and ribbed walls, usually need the H Series (120-350 T). The C Series (140-320 T) is also an option, depending on mould width and height. Barrel size should match the shot, so the FR melt does not sit too long in an oversized barrel.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What battery pack makers ask most when they choose a machine for housings and covers.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Portable Battery Pack Housings?
Hand-held and sensor packs fit the E Series. Housings with deep halves move to the C or H Series, and the barrel is chosen so each shot uses a fair share of its capacity.
  • Does the Flame-Retardant Rating Apply to the Moulded Part?
Check that the flame-retardant certificate applies to the moulded part and not only to the pellet. Too much heat or residence time can weaken the FR package, so melt temperature and barrel size must suit the grade.
  • Why Is Regrind Avoided on Ultrasonic-Welded Housings?
Ultrasonic weld joints need the two halves to match closely. Regrind changes melt flow and shrinkage from batch to batch, which alters joint fit and weld strength, so weld-critical housings are usually moulded from virgin material.
  • How Is the Housing Kept Rigid Without Adding Weight?
Ribs, bosses and a uniform main wall hold the pack rigid under vibration. Ribs thinner than the wall avoid sink on the outer face, and glass-filled PA6 adds stiffness where the design allows it.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Battery Pack Housing?
Yes. Share the housing drawings, FR grade, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities, weld joint design and volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Defence Equipment Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould rugged field enclosures, drone battery cowlings, drone body shells and connector covers, subject to mould and material.
