Injection Moulding Machine for Rugged Field Equipment Enclosures

Rugged field equipment enclosures for radios, sensors and control boxes are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from FR PC/ABS, glass-filled PA6, PC or PBT. Box size, depth and opening stroke set the machine. Flatness of the seal groove matters most, because warp there decides whether the enclosure stays sealed in the field.

Machine selection for these enclosures centres on clamp force for deep boxes, opening stroke for core withdrawal and a process that stays frozen once qualified. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for field enclosures and can recommend a configuration for your box and mould.

Machine Requirements for Rugged Enclosure Moulding

Field enclosures must seal, take impact and stay unchanged once qualified, which puts these demands on the machine:

  • Flat, warp-free seal grooves on box and lid
  • Opening stroke for deep boxes with long cores
  • Wear-resistant screw for glass-filled PA6, PC and PBT
  • Drying of PC/ABS and PBT before moulding
  • Repeatable settings that can be frozen after approval
  • Draft and ejection planned for textured outer walls

Recommended Machine for Rugged Field Enclosures

These enclosures sit near the upper end of the standard range. Many radio, sensor and control boxes fit the C Series (140-320 T), and deeper boxes with taller moulds the H Series (120-350 T), chosen by footprint and mould height. Small lids, battery doors and sensor caps can go to the E Series (75-180 T), and larger enclosures are reviewed against the mould on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Points defence and field equipment suppliers raise when they plan enclosure moulds.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Rugged Field Equipment Enclosures?
Box bodies usually run on the C or H Series, sized by footprint and depth. Lids and small covers can share a smaller E Series machine, so the box and its lid do not always need the same press.
  • What Decides the Sealing Performance of a Moulded Enclosure?
Seal groove flatness matters more than surface finish. Uneven wall sections, unbalanced cooling or early ejection warp the groove, and the gasket then leaks. Even mould temperature and enough cooling time keep the sealing face true.
  • Why Must the Moulding Process Be Frozen for Defence Supply?
Defence buyers usually ask for material traceability and batch records. Once the part is approved, a change of resin, mould or machine settings can mean re-qualification, so the machine must repeat the approved settings shot after shot.
  • How Is EMI Shielding Added to an Enclosure?
Shielding is decided at design stage. It is either a conductive coating applied after moulding or a conductive-filled grade. A filled grade changes flow, drying and screw wear, so it should be known before the machine is chosen.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Rugged Enclosure?
Yes. Share the enclosure and lid drawings, material grade, part weights, mould dimensions, core depth, cavities and volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Field Equipment Parts Too?
Yes. These machines can also mould portable battery pack housings, drone body shells, battery cowlings and connector parts, depending on mould size and material.
