Injection Moulding Machine for Junction Boxes

Junction boxes are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, typically from flame-retardant ABS, PVC or polycarbonate, with the box and lid run in separate moulds. Box depth, footprint and the number of knockouts decide mould size and clamping force. Wall thickness kept even around the screw bosses controls sink and warpage on the box base.

Machine choice for junction boxes depends on the deepest box in the range, lid size and the material grade. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for junction box production and can recommend a configuration for your box and lid moulds.

Machine Requirements for Junction Box Moulding

A junction box needs a flat lid seat, clean knockouts and bosses that hold screws without cracking. Main points for the machine:

  • Opening stroke and ejector stroke for deep boxes
  • Thin knockout membranes that fill without short shots
  • Screw bosses cored out to limit sink marks
  • Flat rim and gasket groove for sealed boxes
  • Drying for flame-retardant PC and ABS grades
  • PVC-suited screw and barrel where PVC is moulded

Recommended Machine for Junction Boxes

Small boxes and lids, often two or more per mould, run on the E Series (75-180 T). Deeper boxes, larger footprints and family moulds that carry box and lid together need more tonnage and daylight, so the next step is the C Series or, for the largest boxes, the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What junction box makers usually ask about machines and moulds.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Junction Boxes?
A horizontal machine sized to the largest box mould. Compact boxes fit the E Series, and large or deep boxes, or box and lid family moulds, go to the C or H Series.
  • How Are Knockouts Moulded So They Break Out Cleanly?
Knockouts are thin membranes around the cable entry. Gate position and injection speed must fill them without weld lines crossing the break line, or the knockout tears unevenly on site.
  • Which Material Suits Outdoor or Sealed Junction Boxes?
Polycarbonate is often used for sealed and outdoor boxes and for clear lids, as it is tough and can be UV stabilised. Flame-retardant ABS suits many indoor boxes. Dry both before moulding.
  • Why Do Junction Box Bases Warp?
Uneven wall thickness, thick bosses and uneven mould temperature make the base shrink differently. Even walls, cored bosses and balanced cooling keep the base and lid seat flat.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Junction Box?
Yes. Share drawings or samples, box sizes, lid design, material grade, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities and production target, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical Building Products Too?
Yes, in most cases. The same machines can mould conduit fittings, distribution board covers, modular switch plates and PVC trunking accessories, depending on mould size.
