Injection Moulding Machine for Modular Switch and Socket Plates

Modular switch and socket plates are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, mostly from PC or FR-PC, with glass-filled nylon for support frames and ABS for some covers. Plate size in modules, cavities per mould and mould height set the machine size. Gloss on the face plate depends on polished cavities and steady mould temperature.

In a modular range, the machine has to handle small module fascias and the widest plates, often with frequent mould changes. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for modular plate production and can recommend a configuration for your range.

Machine Requirements for Modular Plate Moulding

Cover plates, frames and fascias in one range must match in colour, fit and finish. Machine points to plan for:

  • Platen and tie-bar room for the widest plates
  • Polished cavities and controlled gloss on visible faces
  • Drying for PC and glass-filled nylon
  • Flatness of long frames to avoid warpage
  • Snap clips that hold modules without stress whitening
  • Repeatable colour across separate plate moulds

Recommended Machine for Modular Switch and Socket Plates

Fascias, small plates and support frames are E Series work (75-180 T), usually in multi-cavity moulds. Wide multi-module plates and frames, or larger cavity counts for small sizes, call for C Series (140 to 320 tons) or H Series machines. Many makers spread a range over two or three machine sizes.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common questions from makers planning a modular switch range.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Modular Switch and Socket Plates?
Horizontal machines, usually more than one size across a range. The E Series runs small plates and fascias, and the C or H Series takes wide plates, large frames and higher cavity moulds.
  • What Material Is Used for Support Frames?
Support frames, also called grid plates, are often moulded in glass-filled nylon for stiffness under screw load. Glass fibre wears the screw, so a bimetallic screw and barrel can be specified.
  • How Is Colour Kept Consistent Across Plate Sizes?
Use the same resin lot and masterbatch ratio, the same drying and similar melt temperature on every machine. Mould temperature also changes gloss and shade, so set it alike for all plate moulds.
  • Can Urea Be Used for Modular Plates?
Urea is a thermoset and is not moulded on a thermoplastic machine. PC and FR-PC plates run on standard horizontal machines, and thermoset plates are a separate discussion.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Modular Switch Plates?
Yes. Share drawings or samples for each plate size, the frame design, material grades, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly volumes, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest suitable machines.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical Building Products Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould switch and socket contact carriers, plug tops, junction boxes and MCB housings, subject to mould size and material.
