Injection Moulding Machine for LED Bulb Housings and Lamp Bodies

LED bulb housings and lamp bodies are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, often in multi-cavity moulds, from FR PC, PBT or thermally conductive PC and PA compounds. Machine size follows cavity count, shot weight and mould size. For heat-sink housings the critical point is the abrasive conductive compound, which runs hotter and wears screw and barrel faster.

Machine selection for bulb bodies centres on barrel wear, mould temperature control and complete filling of thin cooling fins around the driver space. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for LED bulb housings and can recommend a configuration for your body, cap or heat-sink design.

Machine Requirements for LED Bulb Housing Moulding

A bulb body combines thin fins, a cap seat and a resin that must survive years of driver heat. Points to check when choosing a machine:

  • Wear-resistant screw and barrel for thermally conductive compounds
  • Higher melt and mould temperatures for conductive PC and PA
  • Complete filling of thin fins without short shots
  • Dimensional control at the cap seat and diffuser lip
  • Drying of FR PC and PBT before moulding
  • Separate moulds and machines planned for cap, diffuser and body

Recommended Machine for LED Bulb Housings

Bulb bodies are small parts, so the E Series (75-180 T) handles many single and multi-cavity body moulds, along with the separate cap and diffuser tools. Larger lamp bodies and higher cavity counts can move up to the C Series (140-320 T), and the heaviest family tools to the H Series (120-350 T), with the screw and barrel specified for the conductive compound.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions lamp makers ask us about moulding bulb bodies and heat-sink housings.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make LED Bulb Housings?
Bulb body moulds usually fit a horizontal machine in the E Series, since the parts are small. Higher cavity counts, larger lamp bodies and family moulds can need the C or H Series. The choice rests on mould size, shot weight and the compound used.
  • Do Thermally Conductive Compounds Wear the Screw and Barrel?
Yes. The fillers that carry heat are abrasive, so a plain screw and check ring wear faster than on unfilled PC. A bimetallic barrel and a wear-resistant screw are usually specified, and the screw is inspected more often.
  • Which Resin Grade Suits a Bulb Body?
FR PC suits plastic bodies on lower-wattage lamps, PBT suits parts that see more heat, and thermally conductive PC or PA can replace the aluminium heat sink in retrofit lamps. Judge the grade on heat-aged properties, since the body sits against the driver for years.
  • Are the Cap, Diffuser and Body Moulded in One Mould?
No. They are three separate moulds, usually in different resins: the diffuser in a light-diffusing PC grade and the body in FR PC, PBT or a conductive compound. Each mould is matched to its own machine size.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My LED Bulb Housing?
Yes. Share the body drawing or a sample, resin grade and datasheet, part weight, mould size, cavity count and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine and screw and barrel specification.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Lighting Parts Too?
Yes. The same class of machine can mould LED driver housings, lenses and reflectors, terminal blocks and lamp holders, subject to the mould and the resin.
