Injection Moulding Machine for Terminal Blocks and Luminaire Junction Boxes
Terminal blocks, connector strips and luminaire junction boxes are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, typically in multi-cavity moulds, from flame-rated PA66, glass-filled PBT or PPO. Size depends on strip length, cavity count and shot weight. The main process point is the screw-clamp pocket, which must keep its thread fit after the nylon absorbs moisture.
Machine choice for lighting terminals centres on thin flame-rated walls, glass fibre wear and straight long strips. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for these parts, can recommend a configuration, and builds special purpose machines to application for BMC and melamine versions.

Machine Requirements for Terminal Block and Junction Box Moulding
Lighting terminals sit inside closed fittings near the driver and mains entry, so the grade and the moulded dimensions both count. Check for:
- Wall thickness held at or above the flame-test thickness
- Screw-clamp pockets that keep thread fit after moisture uptake
- Straight long connector strips without warpage
- Bimetallic barrel for glass-filled PA66 and PBT
- Halogen-free flame-retardant grades run without degradation
- Separate thermoset machine for BMC and melamine versions
Recommended Machine for Terminal Blocks and Junction Boxes
Terminal blocks and connector strips are small parts in multi-cavity moulds, so the E Series (75-180 T) covers many tools. For long multi-pole strips and larger junction box bodies with lids, C Series (140-320 T) and H Series (120-350 T) machines give more clamp and shot. BMC and melamine blocks for higher arc and heat exposure need a thermoset machine, built under Special Purpose.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Questions luminaire and terminal makers ask about moulding these parts.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Terminal Blocks and Connector Strips?
A horizontal machine with a wear-resistant screw for glass-filled grades. The E Series fits small block and strip moulds, and the C or H Series suits long strips and larger junction box bodies. Thermoset BMC blocks go to a Special Purpose machine.Does the Flame Rating Apply at Any Wall Thickness?
No. Flame and glow wire results on a compound certificate hold only down to the thickness tested. If any wall on the block is thinner, the rating does not carry over, so wall thickness is set against the certificate before the mould is cut.Why Do Nylon Terminal Blocks Change Size After Moulding?
PA66 takes up moisture from the air after moulding and grows slightly. Screw-clamp pockets and thread bores must still fit after that, so parts are gauged after conditioning and mould dimensions are set with the growth in mind.
When Is BMC Used Instead of PA66?
BMC polyester and melamine are thermosets chosen where arc and heat exposure are higher than nylon can take. They need a thermoset machine with a cool barrel and heated mould, which Pratishna Engineers builds to application as a Special Purpose machine. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Terminal Block?
Yes. Share the block, strip or box drawing, grade and certificate thickness, pole count, mould size, cavities and volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Lighting and Electronics Parts Too?
Yes. The same thermoplastic machines can mould LED driver housings, bulb bodies, lamp holder parts and LED reflectors, depending on mould and resin.
