Injection Moulding Machine for Furniture Hinge Parts and Living Hinges

Plastic furniture hinge parts, such as living hinges, cover caps and cup liners, are moulded on small horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity moulds from PP, POM or PA66. Cavity count and shot weight set the machine size. On a living hinge, the gate must sit so melt flows across the hinge line, or the hinge cracks early.

Hinge part selection is about accurate small shots and cavity balance more than tonnage. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for plastic hinge parts and can recommend a configuration once the part list and cavity count are clear.

Machine Requirements for Furniture Hinge Part Moulding

Hinge parts are small and often functional, so the press should handle:

  • Small, repeatable shots for multi-cavity hinge tools
  • Gate placement that fills across the living hinge line
  • Prompt flexing of living hinges right after ejection
  • POM processing for pivot parts that must not creep
  • PA66 drying before moulding to avoid brittle parts
  • Cavity balance so every hinge flexes the same

Recommended Machine for Furniture Hinge Parts

Hinge sub-parts are small, so the E Series (75-180 T) suits many cover cap, cup liner and living hinge moulds. The H Series (120-350 T) covers larger family tools or high-cavity hot runner moulds. The steel hinge arm and damper are assembled parts and sit outside the moulding scope.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions buyers ask about moulding plastic hinge parts for furniture.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Furniture Hinge Parts?
Small horizontal machines in the E Series range suit many hinge parts. Machine size grows with cavity count and hot runner layout, and larger family moulds move up to the H Series.
  • Can a Full Soft-Close Cabinet Hinge Be Injection Moulded?
No. A concealed soft-close hinge is a steel assembly with a hydraulic damper. Only plastic parts such as the cup liner, cover cap and damper housing are moulded, so quote those, not the hinge.
  • Why Must a Living Hinge Be Flexed After Moulding?
Flexing the hinge right after ejection, while it is still warm, orients the molecules across the hinge line and gives a long flex life. PP is chosen for living hinges, with gating that sends flow across the hinge.
  • Why Use POM for Hinge Pivot Parts?
POM resists creep and wear, so pivot parts keep their fit under repeated movement. It needs controlled mould temperature and good venting, since trapped gas at the end of fill can leave burn marks.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Hinge Parts?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of each hinge part, material, part weight, mould dimensions, cavity count and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Furniture Hardware Parts Too?
Yes. Small horizontal machines also mould drawer channel components, fastener caps, knock-down fittings and door catch and damper housings, subject to the mould.
