Injection Moulding Machine for Plastic Drawers

Plastic drawers are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually one drawer box per shot, from PP copolymer, HIPS, ABS or HDPE. Mould height, opening stroke and projected area decide the press, because the box is deep. Core cooling sets the cycle, and uneven cooling makes the long side walls bow inward.

With deep drawer boxes, the machine must open far enough to release the box and hold a tall mould. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for drawer and tray moulds and can propose a configuration from your drawer size and tool.

Machine Requirements for Plastic Drawer Moulding

A drawer box is deep with long walls, so the press needs to suit the following:

  • Opening stroke long enough to clear a deep drawer
  • Mould height capacity for a tall box tool
  • Strong core cooling to control cycle and wall bow
  • Draft on all four walls for nesting in transport
  • Air-assisted or stripper ejection off a deep core
  • Clamping force sized on drawer base and runner area

Recommended Machine for Plastic Drawers

Drawer boxes and trays for desk and cabinet storage can suit the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T), chosen on box footprint, depth and mould height. Check deep boxes against mould height and opening stroke before tonnage. Large wardrobe drawers, or several drawers moulded together, are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Answers to questions drawer and tray moulders raise most.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Plastic Drawers?
Mid to high tonnage horizontal machines in the C or H range suit many drawer and tray moulds. The choice often turns on depth and mould height rather than clamping force alone.
  • Why Do Drawer Side Walls Bow Inward?
In a deep box the core runs hotter than the cavity, so the walls shrink unevenly and pull inward. More cooling in the core, balanced water circuits and enough cooling time keep the walls straight.
  • Is the Drawer Front Moulded With the Box?
Often not. Drawer runners, slide rails and decorative fronts can be separate mouldings, so check whether the enquiry is one part or a set. Each tool in a set may need a different machine size.
  • Which Material Suits Plastic Drawers?
PP copolymer gives a tough drawer that flexes without cracking. HIPS and ABS give a stiffer, glossier box for cabinets and desk units, and HDPE suits heavy-duty storage. Dry ABS before moulding to avoid splay on the front.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Plastic Drawer?
Yes. Share the drawer drawing or sample, material, depth, shot weight, mould dimensions and output target, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Storage Parts Too?
Yes. Machines in this range also mould modular storage bins, storage crate lids and latches, and plastic stools, subject to each mould.
