Injection Moulding Machine for Jerry-Can Caps

Jerry-can caps are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, in multi-cavity moulds, from HDPE or PP, with LDPE for softer seals. Cavity count, shot weight and how the thread is released, by stripping or an unscrewing mould, decide machine size. Clean tamper band bridges that break by hand but hold in transit matter most.

Cap machines are chosen for injection speed, shot repeatability across cavities and mould space for unscrewing cores. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for jerry-can closures and can recommend a set-up to suit the cap type and cavity count.

Machine Requirements for Jerry-Can Cap Moulding

A jerry-can cap has to seal, show tampering and survive transport, so the machine needs:

  • Repeatable shot weight across every cavity of the mould
  • Fast injection to fill thin tamper band bridges
  • Mould height and stroke for unscrewing thread cores
  • Gentle ejection that does not tear the band
  • Thread and seal face held true for wad seating
  • Steady melt temperature for HDPE and PP caps

Recommended Machine for Jerry-Can Caps

Jerry-can caps are small, so the E Series (75-180 T) suits most cap moulds by cavity count and thread release. Higher-cavity hot runner tools, or unscrewing moulds that need more mould space, move to the H Series (120-350 T). Each cap variant in the family has its own tool and is sized separately.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Points jerrycan and chemical packaging makers ask about cap moulding.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Jerry-Can Caps?
Most jerry-can cap moulds fit the E Series, with size set by cavity count and the thread release method. Larger neck caps and high-cavity tools may need the H Series. The can body itself is blow moulded.
  • Does Each Cap Variant Need Its Own Mould?
Yes. Vented caps, degassing valve caps, child-resistant caps, withdrawable spout caps and plug caps share the neck finish but differ inside, so each needs its own tool and machine check.
  • How Is the Tamper-Evident Band Moulded?
The band is moulded with the cap and joined by thin bridges. Short shots or flash on the bridges change the break force, so even filling, venting at the band and careful ejection decide whether it breaks cleanly.
  • Is the Cap Wad or Liner Moulded In?
No. EPE or PE foam wads are fitted after moulding and form part of the seal. The seal face under the wad has to be flat and flash-free, or the cap leaks even with a good wad.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Jerry-Can Cap?
Yes. Share the cap drawing or sample, neck finish, cap type, material, cavity count, thread release method, mould size and output target, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Industrial Packaging Closures Too?
Yes. These machines also suit drum bungs, spouts and vented closures, dispensing taps and screw caps for lube and chemical bottles, depending on mould size and cavities.
