Injection Moulding Machine for CFL Holders and Lamp Bodies

CFL holders, the lamp-side bodies that carry the ballast board and the lamp cap, are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from flame-retardant PC, PBT or glass-filled PA66. Machine size depends on body diameter, cavity count and whether brass cap parts are insert moulded. A grade that holds up under continuous ballast heat is the main material point.

Machine selection for CFL bodies centres on clean filling of thin vented walls, steady insert loading and a screw suited to glass-filled grades. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for CFL holder moulding and can recommend a configuration for your body and mould.

Machine Requirements for CFL Holder Moulding

CFL body moulding combines heat-resistant grades, metal cap parts and thin walls around the ballast vents. Points to check when selecting a machine:

  • Heat-aged flame-retardant grade for continuous ballast heat
  • Brass cap and contact insert loading built into the cycle
  • Screw and barrel wear protection for glass-filled PA66
  • Drying of PBT and PC before moulding
  • Clean fill of thin vent slots without weak weld lines
  • Clamping force sized to body diameter and cavity count

Recommended Machine for CFL Holders

CFL bodies are small to medium parts, and most body moulds fit the E Series (75-180 T). Moulds carrying more cavities on a hot runner, or larger bodies for higher-wattage lamps, may need the H Series (120-350 T). Insert-moulded cap versions also take loading time in each cycle, which affects the cavity plan.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions buyers often ask before tooling a CFL lamp body.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make CFL Holders?
A horizontal machine in the E Series range covers most single and multi-cavity body moulds. Hot runner tools with more cavities, or larger lamp bodies, move up to the H Series depending on projected area and shot weight.
  • Is a Flame-Retardant Grade Enough for a CFL Body?
Not on its own. The body surrounds the ballast board and sees heat for the whole lamp life, so the grade also needs long-term heat ageing data. PBT, glass-filled PA66 and heat-aged FR PC are often chosen for this reason.
  • Can the Brass Cap Be Moulded In?
Yes. Brass caps and contacts can be insert moulded, which needs loading time and accurate locating in the mould. Other makers assemble the cap after moulding, keeping the cycle shorter and the tool simpler.
  • Can Urea Formaldehyde or BMC Bodies Run on the Same Machine?
No. Urea formaldehyde and BMC are thermosets that cure in a heated mould and need a thermoset machine built to application, quoted separately. Thermoplastic bodies in PBT, PA66 or FR PC run on the listed series.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My CFL Holder?
Yes. Share the body drawing or sample, cap type, material grade, part weight, mould size, cavity count and whether caps are moulded in, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Lighting Parts Too?
Yes. The same class of machine moulds LED potting boxes, cable glands, downlight housings and diffuser covers, subject to each mould. If the tool is really for an LED bulb body, say so, since sizing then follows that housing.
