Injection Moulding Machine for Cord Locks, Toggles and Webbing Hardware

Cord locks, toggles and small webbing hardware for bags are moulded from POM, nylon or ABS on horizontal injection moulding machines using multi-cavity moulds. A spring cord lock needs separate body and plunger tools, each sized by cavity count. The sliding fit between them matters most, as it sets how well the cord is held over repeated use.

Because the body and plunger are moulded apart and assembled with a steel spring, machines are matched to each tool and to the assembly rate. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for this hardware and can recommend sizes.

Machine Requirements for Cord Lock and Toggle Moulding

A cord lock only works if the plunger slides freely yet grips the cord every time. Machine and process points to plan for:

  • Separate body and plunger moulds planned for matching output
  • Consistent POM shrinkage for a steady sliding fit
  • Clean cord holes free of flash
  • Spring seat held to size for quick assembly
  • UV-stabilised grades for outdoor packs and gear
  • Small, accurate shots in multi-cavity moulds

Recommended Machine for Cord Locks and Toggles

Cord lock bodies, plungers and toggles are small enough for the E Series (75-180 T) in most multi-cavity moulds. The H Series (120-350 T) comes in for larger webbing hardware tools, or moulds with very high cavity counts where the projected area grows.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Practical questions from backpack and outdoor bag hardware makers.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Cord Locks and Toggles?
Most cord lock and toggle moulds run on compact horizontal machines in the E Series. Larger webbing hardware tools, or moulds with many more cavities, can call for the H Series.
  • How Many Moulds Does a Spring Cord Lock Need?
Usually two, one for the body and one for the plunger, plus a steel spring and an assembly step. Both tools should be planned for matching output so assembly never waits on either part.
  • How Is Cord Lock Performance Judged?
By the force with which it still holds the cord after many open and close cycles, not by a single new-part test. Stable POM moulding keeps the plunger and body fit unchanged so grip does not fade.
  • Can Nylon Be Used Instead of POM?
Yes, nylon is used for some toggles and hardware. It must be dried before moulding and takes up moisture afterwards, so its size shifts slightly. POM keeps a steadier sliding fit for plungers.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Cord Lock?
Yes. Share the body, plunger and toggle drawings or samples, material, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Backpack and Bag Parts Too?
Yes. These machines also suit bag buckles, zip pull tabs, zipper sliders and bag feet and studs, subject to the mould.
