Injection Moulding Machine for Moulded Zipper Chain and Tooth Elements

Moulded zipper chain teeth are made from POM on zipper-chain injection moulding machines, which mould each tooth directly onto both sides of the fabric tape. Tooth size, tape width and the number of teeth formed per shot set the machine. Keeping tooth pitch and profile constant matters most, so the slider runs smoothly along the chain.

Zipper chain moulding uses a dedicated machine that feeds and indexes the tape, rather than a general-purpose press. Pratishna Engineers builds special purpose injection moulding machines to application and can discuss one for your chain size and tape.

Machine Requirements for Moulded Zipper Chain

Every tooth along the tape has to be identical, or the slider catches and the chain splits. A chain machine needs:

  • Tape feed and accurate indexing between shots
  • Mould that grips the tape and forms teeth on both faces
  • Constant tooth pitch and profile along the whole chain
  • Stable POM moulding with clean parting lines on each tooth
  • Coloured resin or masterbatch matched to the tape shade
  • Small screw and barrel for a repeatable shot per row

Recommended Machine for Moulded Zipper Chain

Moulded tooth chain needs a special purpose injection moulding machine built to application, with a tape feed, a mould that forms teeth on both sides of the tape and a small, repeatable shot. Pratishna Engineers can review your chain size, tape and output target and advise on a suitable build.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions zip makers ask before they move into moulded tooth chain.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Moulded Zipper Chain?
A dedicated zipper-chain machine, built to application, rather than a standard horizontal press. Pratishna Engineers handles this under special purpose machines and sizes the build to the chain and tape.
  • Why Is Acetal Used for Moulded Zip Teeth?
Acetal is self-lubricating, so the chain runs smoothly and quietly over a long cycle life. It also resists corrosion and UV, which is where metal chains on outdoor bags and covers can fail.
  • How Are Moulded Zip Teeth Coloured?
The teeth are moulded in coloured resin or with masterbatch to match the tape, instead of being painted afterwards. Moving to the next shade needs a purge so streaks of the old colour do not appear.
  • Can a Standard Horizontal Machine Mould Zipper Chain?
No. The tape has to be fed, held and indexed through the mould between shots, with teeth formed on both faces. A general-purpose press is not set up for that, so the process needs a machine built for it.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Moulded Zipper Chain?
Yes. Share the chain size, tooth drawing or sample, tape width and type, colours, output per shift and any existing equipment, and Pratishna Engineers will advise on a special purpose build.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Zip and Luggage Parts Too?
Not usually, as it is built for chain. Zipper sliders, zip pull tabs, cord locks and bag buckles are moulded on standard horizontal machines, which Pratishna Engineers can also advise on.
