Injection Moulding Machine for Zipper Sliders

Plastic zipper sliders are moulded in POM or nylon on horizontal injection moulding machines, for bags, marine covers and other uses where a metal slider would corrode. Slider size and cavity count decide the machine. Holding the internal channel to size matters most, because it must match the chain type and size exactly.

Before a machine is chosen, confirm that the slider is to be moulded, since many luggage sliders are die-cast zinc with only the pull tab in plastic. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal machines for moulded sliders and can recommend one from your design.

Machine Requirements for Zipper Slider Moulding

A slider has to guide the chain teeth through a narrow channel without binding, so mould accuracy comes first. Requirements include:

  • Accurate cores and slides for the internal chain channel
  • Channel sized to coil, moulded tooth or metal chain
  • Stable POM moulding for even shrinkage between cavities
  • Drying of nylon grades before moulding
  • Full section at the bridge that holds the puller
  • Small shot weight in multi-cavity moulds

Recommended Machine for Zipper Sliders

Plastic sliders are small parts, and the E Series (75-180 T) covers most slider moulds, including multi-cavity tools. The H Series (120-350 T) suits sliders for heavy luggage zips, or moulds where extra cavities and slides need a larger platen and more clamping force.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Points zip and bag hardware makers raise before moulding sliders in plastic.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Zipper Sliders?
Moulded sliders run on horizontal machines, mostly in the E Series. Larger sliders, or high-cavity moulds with several slides, can need the H Series depending on mould size.
  • Are Luggage Zipper Sliders Usually Plastic or Metal?
Many are die-cast zinc alloy with a plated or coated finish. Plastic sliders are picked for saltwater, marine and corrosion-free uses and for lower weight. Pull tabs are often plastic even on metal sliders.
  • Which Plastics Are Used for Moulded Sliders?
POM is the usual choice for its low friction against the chain and stable size. Nylon is also used and has to be dried before moulding to avoid moisture streaks and brittle sliders.
  • Does the Slider Have to Match the Zip Chain?
Yes. The slider channel must suit the exact chain type, coil, moulded tooth or metal, and the chain size. A mismatch gives a stiff pull or a zip that splits open, so the tool is sized to the chain.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Zipper Slider?
Yes. Share the slider drawing or sample, chain type and size, material, part weight, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Zip and Bag Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould zip pull tabs and trims, cord locks and toggles, bag buckles and luggage lock parts, subject to the mould.
