Injection Moulding Machine for Component Trays and Dunnage Trays

Small component and dunnage trays are moulded from PP copolymer, HIPS, HDPE or conductive ESD PP on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually one tray per mould. Tray footprint sets projected area and tonnage, and pocket depth sets mould height. Flatness after ejection is the functional requirement, since a warped tray will not nest or feed a line.

Tray moulding puts machine selection on even filling of many pockets, stable cooling for flatness and handling of filled ESD grades. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for tray production and can recommend a configuration for your tray design.

Machine Requirements for Component and Dunnage Tray Moulding

Trays are flat, compartmented parts that must stack, nest and sit true on automated lines. Points to check:

  • Balanced cooling so trays stay flat after ejection
  • Even fill across every pocket and divider wall
  • Injection pressure for higher-viscosity ESD and conductive grades
  • Wear-resistant screw for abrasive conductive fillers
  • Draft on pockets for clean ejection and nesting
  • Clamp and platen size for the full tray footprint

Recommended Machine for Component and Dunnage Trays

Small trays, and multi-cavity tools for parts trays, can run on the E Series (75-180 T). Wider trays with deep pockets usually need the H Series (120-350 T), with the C Series (140-320 T) as the alternative where its platen area and daylight suit the mould. Tonnage follows tray footprint more than tray weight.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common questions from buyers of tray moulding machines.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Component and Dunnage Trays?
Tray size decides it. Smaller trays fit the E Series, and wider or deeper trays move to the C or H Series, chosen by footprint and pocket depth.
  • Why Do Moulded Trays Warp, and Why Does It Matter?
Uneven cooling across a flat compartmented part leaves stresses that bend it after ejection. Warped trays will not nest, stack or feed an automated line, so mould cooling and cooling time are set for flatness.
  • Do ESD and Conductive Grades Mould Differently?
Yes. Conductive and ESD PP grades usually flow less freely and carry abrasive fillers. They need more injection pressure, careful gate sizing and a screw and barrel that resist wear.
  • How Does Tray Design Affect Return Logistics?
The nesting ratio, how far empty trays sit inside each other, decides how many fit in a return load. Pocket draft and wall angles set that ratio, and both are fixed in the mould.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Dunnage Tray?
Yes. Share the tray drawing, material grade, part weight, mould dimensions and annual volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Material Handling Parts Too?
Yes. Crate and bin lids, small picking bins, bin dividers and label holders can run on the same machines, subject to mould size.
