Injection Moulding Machine for Plastic Crates
Plastic crates for logistics and produce are made on large horizontal injection moulding machines, usually in single-cavity moulds, from PP copolymer or HDPE. Projected area, shot weight against barrel capacity and the mould height of a deep part set machine size. Marginal clamp force lets stacking lugs drift out of position.
For crates, machine selection focuses on a clamp that holds the mould steady across the full base, an injection unit able to pack thick corners, and daylight for the deep core. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal and two-platen injection moulding machines for crate moulding and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for Plastic Crate Moulding
A crate mould is large, deep and heavy, and every shot has to fill the walls, ribs and corners completely. Points to check:
- Clamp force sized to the full crate projected area
- Shot capacity matched to clamp so thick corners fill without voids
- Mould height and opening stroke for a deep crate core
- Steady clamping so stacking and interlock lugs stay in position
- Vent slots and ribs placed without weakening stacking strength
- Screw and barrel suited to PP copolymer, HDPE and recycled blends
Recommended Machine for Plastic Crates
Smaller stackable crates sit in the upper part of the H Series (120-350 T) and C Series (140-320 T), where tie-bar spacing and daylight suit a deep mould. The PHM Series (160-350 T) is a two-platen option with more room between platens. Larger crates and multi-crate moulds need higher tonnage and are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Questions crate moulders ask before they choose a machine.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Plastic Crates?
Small and mid-size crates are often moulded near the top of the H and C Series, or on the PHM Series when the mould is bulky. Bigger logistics crates move above that band and are quoted on enquiry. Why Do Stacking Lugs on a Crate Drift Out of Position?
Usually the clamp is marginal for the projected area, so the mould opens slightly under injection pressure. Lugs and interlock tabs move with it, and the fault can show up much later as stacks that lean or collapse in storage. Why Do Thick Crate Corners Show Sink or Voids?
A barrel too small for the clamp cannot pack heavy sections. Sink and voids then appear at corners and handle areas. Shot capacity has to suit the crate weight with margin, not just the clamp tonnage.
Can Recycled PP or HDPE Be Used for Crates?
Yes, recycled PP and HDPE blends can be used. Melt flow often varies between lots, so settings need checking on each new lot, and drop and stacking tests on moulded crates confirm the result. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Plastic Crate?
Yes. Share the crate drawing or a sample, capacity, part weight, material, mould dimensions and required output, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Material Handling Parts Too?
Yes. Machines of this class can also mould plastic bins, crate and bin lids, component trays and small picking bins, subject to mould size and tie-bar spacing.
