Injection Moulding Machine for Lens Holders, Barrels and Optical Mounts

Lens holders, barrels and optical mounts are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from glass-filled PC or PA6, PPS or POM, usually in multi-cavity moulds. Bore size, cavity count and glass content guide the machine choice. Gating decides concentricity, because glass fibres shrink differently along and across the flow.

These parts are black and opaque, yet they carry the optical alignment, so selection focuses on repeatable shot and pack for bore roundness. Pratishna Engineers supplies hybrid and horizontal injection moulding machines for lens mount moulding and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for Lens Holder and Barrel Moulding

A mount is judged on its bore, its datum faces and how little light it scatters. Points for the machine:

  • Gating placed for bore concentricity and roundness
  • Screw and check ring suited to glass-filled grades
  • Matte texture and light trap ribs filled cleanly
  • Axial datum faces flat and free of sink
  • Drying of PC and PA6 before moulding
  • Low-outgassing black grades for sealed lens assemblies

Recommended Machine for Lens Holders and Barrels

Holders and barrels are small, precise parts. Most multi-cavity mount moulds are covered by the Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) and E Series (75-180 T), with the electric injection of the PH useful for repeatable packing. Larger mounts, family moulds or tools with several slides for threads can go to the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions camera, sensor and lighting makers ask about moulding lens mounts.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Lens Holders and Barrels?
Pratishna Engineers would usually suggest the Hybrid PH or E Series for these small precision parts, and the H Series where the mount is larger or the mould carries many slides.
  • Why Are Lens Barrels Moulded in Black, Matte Grades?
Stray light reflecting inside the barrel lowers image contrast. Black grades, a matte moulded texture and internal light trap ribs absorb it. Sealed camera or sensor assemblies also need low-outgassing grades so the lens does not fog.
  • How Does Glass Fill Affect a Lens Barrel?
Glass fibres stiffen the part and cut shrinkage, but they shrink less along the flow than across it, which pulls the bore oval. Gate position, balanced filling and a wear-resistant screw and barrel all matter.
  • Can Threads Be Moulded Into a Lens Barrel?
Yes. Internal focusing threads are often released by an unscrewing core, and external threads by split slides. Thread and seat accuracy then depend on the mould and a stable process.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Lens Holder or Barrel?
Yes. Share the mount drawing, material grade, bore and datum tolerances, thread details, cavity count and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Optical Parts Too?
Often, yes. Related parts include camera module barrels, optical fibre connector housings, optical lenses and instrument windows, each checked against its own mould.
