Injection Moulding Machine for Compression Fittings

Compression fittings are made on horizontal injection moulding machines as separate parts: a PP body and nut, a POM split grip ring and a rubber O-ring fitted later. Thread forming, cavity count and body size decide each machine. Thread fit between body and nut matters most, because the nut drives the ring onto the pipe.

With compression fittings, selection usually covers two or three machines, one for bodies and nuts and a smaller one for rings. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for compression fitting parts and can lay out the machine sizes for your range.

Machine Requirements for Compression Fitting Moulding

Three parts in two materials, each with its own mould, shape the machine plan for compression fittings:

  • Unscrewing cores for internal threads in the nut
  • Slides or unscrewing action for body threads
  • Small, repeatable shots for POM split grip rings
  • Dedicated barrel for POM, kept apart from PVC
  • Cooling and hold control for thread size repeatability
  • Clamping force for multi-cavity nut and body moulds

Recommended Machine for Compression Fittings

Grip rings and small nuts are light parts that suit the E Series (75-180 T), often in many-cavity moulds. Bodies and nuts for larger pipe sizes move to the C Series (140-320 T) for more shot weight. Bigger moulds with unscrewing drives can also use the H Series (120-350 T). Plants making a full range often keep body, nut and ring moulds on separate machines.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions our engineers hear from compression fitting makers.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Compression Fittings?
Horizontal machines, sized part by part. Rings and small nuts run on the E Series, while bodies and nuts for bigger pipes may need the C or H Series. The largest body mould sets the biggest machine in the line.
  • Why Must POM and PVC Never Share a Barrel?
POM and PVC react when mixed hot, and the breakdown can be violent and give off gas. Plants keep separate machines, or purge fully with PP or PE between them. POM grip rings are usually run on a machine that never sees PVC.
  • How Are the Nut Threads Formed?
The nut’s internal thread is moulded on a rotating core that unscrews before ejection. A gear drive or hydraulic motor turns the core, while ribs or flats on the outside of the nut hold it in the cavity.
  • Does the Grip Ring Need Special Moulding Care?
The POM ring is thin and slit, with teeth that bite the pipe. Sharp teeth need full fill and good venting, and POM’s high shrinkage means mould temperature and hold time must stay steady to keep the ring size.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Compression Fitting?
Yes. Share drawings of the body, nut and ring, pipe sizes, materials, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend suitable machines.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Plumbing Fitting Parts Too?
Yes. Threaded adaptors, tank connectors, pipe joints and end caps can run on the same machines, depending on mould size and thread actions.
