Injection Moulding Machine for Plastic Pipe Joints

Plastic pipe joints, such as couplers and solvent-weld sockets, are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually in multi-cavity moulds, from UPVC, CPVC, PPR or PP. Coupler diameter, cavity count and shot weight set the machine size. Socket roundness and bore size matter most, because the pipe and solvent cement rely on a close fit.

With couplers, the machine has to repeat shot after shot so every socket stays in size across all cavities. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for pipe joint moulding and can advise on tonnage and screw for your coupler sizes.

Machine Requirements for Plastic Pipe Joint Moulding

A coupler looks simple, but socket fit decides whether the joint holds. Points to check on the machine:

  • Repeatable shot and holding pressure for uniform socket bores
  • Balanced runners so every cavity fills alike
  • Stripper plate or sleeve ejection off the socket cores
  • Even core cooling to limit ovality and shrinkage
  • PVC-suited screw and barrel for UPVC and CPVC
  • Clamping force sized to cavities and runner area

Recommended Machine for Plastic Pipe Joints

Small couplers and sockets in multi-cavity moulds suit the E Series (75-180 T). Larger diameters, or more cavities per mould, need the shot capacity and clamping force found in the C Series (140-320 T). Moulds at the top of the size range go to the H Series (120-350 T). Size the machine for the biggest coupler you plan to run, so one press can cover the range.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What coupler and socket makers usually ask before buying a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Plastic Pipe Joints?
A horizontal machine sized by coupler diameter and cavities. Small couplers in many-cavity moulds often fit the E Series. Large diameters move to the C or H Series, where mould size and shot weight are covered.
  • How Is Socket Size Held on a Solvent-Weld Coupler?
Socket bore depends on core size, mould cooling and holding pressure. Steady barrel and mould temperatures and a repeatable shot keep shrinkage the same from cycle to cycle, so bores stay within the size the pipe needs.
  • Are PPR Couplers Moulded Like UPVC Couplers?
The moulding is similar, but PPR does not take solvent cement. PPR couplers are joined by heat fusion, so the socket is sized for the fusion tool. PPR runs on a general-purpose screw, while UPVC and CPVC need a PVC-suited one.
  • Can the Same Machine Mould CPVC Couplers for Hot Water?
Yes, if the screw and barrel suit PVC. CPVC runs hotter than UPVC with a narrower window, so heater control and short residence time matter more. Purge carefully when switching between the two.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Plastic Pipe Joint?
Yes. Share the coupler or socket drawing, diameters, material, part weight, mould dimensions, number of cavities and monthly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Pipe Fitting Parts Too?
Yes. It can also mould end caps, threaded adaptors, tank connectors and compression fitting parts, depending on the mould and cavity layout.
