Injection Moulding Machine for Tray Table Hinges, Latches and Brackets

Tray table hinges, latches and brackets for railway seats are made on horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity or family moulds, from glass-filled FR PA66 or PA6, FR PBT and FR PP. Cavity count and shot weight set the machine more than part size. Pin bore roundness and latch fit under repeated cycling matter most.

These are small wear parts, so machine selection centres on accurate shot control across many cavities and a stable process for glass-filled nylon. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for tray table hardware and can recommend a configuration for your set.

Machine Requirements for Tray Table Hinge and Latch Moulding

A folding tray is opened and latched many times a day, so the parts must keep their fit and fire rating through that duty. What to plan for:

  • Round, true pin bores for smooth hinge rotation
  • Fibre orientation along the hinge arm, not across it
  • Flash-free latch catches and engagement faces
  • Cleaning chemical resistance, often met with FR PP
  • Drying of FR PA66 and PA6 before moulding
  • Balanced filling across multi-cavity or family moulds

Recommended Machine for Tray Table Hinges and Latches

Hinges and latches are small, and the E Series (75-180 T) handles most multi-cavity tools for them. A family mould that runs the bracket alongside the hinge, or a high-cavity latch tool, may need an H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T) machine. Cavity count, not part size, usually decides the tonnage.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common questions from seat and tray table suppliers.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Tray Table Hinges and Latches?
Horizontal machines, usually in the E Series for small multi-cavity tools. Larger family moulds that combine hinge, latch and bracket can need the C or H Series.
  • Should Hinge, Latch and Bracket Run in One Family Mould?
Family moulds save tooling, but parts with different weights fill unevenly and one part can flash while another short shots. Separate balanced tools give tighter control where the latch fit is critical.
  • How Do Hinges Keep Working Through Repeated Opening?
Glass-filled nylon or PBT gives stiffness at the pin, and gating so fibres run along the arm limits cracking. The duty cycle test is run on moulded parts, after the nylon has conditioned.
  • Why Is FR PP Used for Some Tray Table Parts?
Tray tables are wiped with cleaning agents constantly. PP-based rail compounds resist those chemicals well, which suits latches and covers where load is lower than at the hinge.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Tray Table Hinge?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of each part, the grades, part weights, mould sizes, cavity plan and the number of seats per year, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Railway Interior Parts Too?
Yes. The same class of machine can mould grab handle brackets, coach bezels and cover caps, cable clips and toilet module hooks, subject to the mould.
