Injection Moulding Machine for Bib Cocks

Bib cocks are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually from PTMT, with POM or glass-filled PA66 used for spindles and some bodies. The longest body variant, its projected area and the cavity count set the machine size. PTMT must be dried before every run, because moisture causes hydrolysis and permanently cuts strength.

Bib cock machine selection looks at the full product family, from short body to long body, and at thread core control. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines suited to bib cock work and can advise on a configuration that covers your whole range.

Machine Requirements for Bib Cock Moulding

Bib cock moulding is mostly PTMT work with a threaded inlet and a working spindle seat. The machine should provide:

  • Dehumidifying dryer capacity matched to PTMT throughput
  • Shot weight and platen size for the longest body variant
  • Concentric unscrewing core control for the BSP inlet thread
  • Barrel temperature control for PTMT, POM and glass-filled PA66
  • Wear-resistant screw where glass-filled PA66 bodies are run
  • Short runner or hot runner layout to limit PTMT regrind

Recommended Machine for Bib Cocks

Short body bib cocks and their spindles fit the E Series (75-180 T) in multi-cavity tools. Size the machine on the longest variant in the family: long body and extended-reach bib cocks may need the C Series (140-320 T), and the H Series (120-350 T) suits larger family moulds.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Answers to questions sanitaryware makers raise about bib cock moulding.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Bib Cocks?
A horizontal machine sized on the biggest body in the family. E Series machines cover short body cocks and spindles, while long body variants and multi-cavity body moulds can move into the C or H Series.
  • Why Must PTMT Be Dried Before Moulding?
PTMT is a polyester. Moulded wet, it hydrolyses in the barrel and loses strength that cannot be recovered, even when the part looks fine. Dry it in a dehumidifying dryer and keep the hopper covered.
  • Can PTMT Runners and Rejects Be Reground?
Only with care. PTMT regrind loses properties each time it is processed and has to be dried again, so limit the share used and keep runners short. Plan the runner design around this from the start.
  • How Is the Inlet Thread Kept Concentric?
An unscrewing or collapsible core forms the BSP thread. Core alignment, steady mould temperature and even packing keep the thread concentric with the body bore, so the cock sits square on the wall fitting.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Bib Cock?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of each body variant, material, part weight, mould dimensions, cavities and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Tap and Cock Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines run plastic taps, angle cocks, health faucet triggers, overhead shower parts and cistern valves, subject to the mould.
