Injection Moulding Machine for Plastic Taps

Plastic taps are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with the body, spindle, handle and aerator each moulded in its own tool from PTMT, POM, PP or ABS. Machine size is set per component by projected area, cavity count and the inlet thread core. Weld lines and flow marks behind the spout core often cause cosmetic rejects.

Because a tap is several parts, machine selection works part by part: a larger press for the body, smaller ones for the spindle, handle and aerator. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for plastic tap production and can recommend a configuration for each tool.

Machine Requirements for Plastic Tap Moulding

A plastic tap brings together a cosmetic body, a working spindle and threaded connections. Points to check on the machine:

  • Controlled injection speed to limit flow marks around the spout
  • Short barrel residence time when moulding POM spindles
  • Unscrewing core space and stroke for the inlet thread
  • Drying before moulding PTMT tap bodies
  • Mould temperature control for gloss on visible body faces
  • Smaller machine size matched to handle and aerator tools

Recommended Machine for Plastic Taps

Handles, spindles and aerators are small parts that run in multi-cavity tools on the E Series (75-180 T). Standard tap bodies with a spout core, side action and an unscrewing inlet core can also suit the E Series, while longer bodies or body moulds with more cavities may need the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common questions from tap makers setting up or expanding a moulding line.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Plastic Taps?
Horizontal machines, often more than one size. The E Series covers handles, spindles, aerators and standard bodies, and a C or H Series machine is added when body moulds grow in size or cavity count.
  • Why Is POM Used for Tap Spindles, and What Care Does It Need?
POM gives a stiff, low-friction spindle that turns smoothly in the body. It has a narrow melt window and breaks down, releasing formaldehyde, if held hot, so never let it stall in the barrel and purge before stops.
  • Why Do Weld Lines Form Behind the Spout?
Melt splits around the spout core and meets again on the far side. Gate position, venting at the meeting point, melt temperature and injection speed decide how visible and how weak that line is.
  • Can One Machine Mould All Parts of a Tap?
It can, with tool changes, but output suffers. Running the body on one machine and the small parts on another lets each tool run at its own shot size and cycle.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Plastic Tap?
Yes. Share the drawings or samples of each component, material, part weights, mould sizes, cavities and monthly output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend machines for each tool.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Bathroom Fittings Too?
Yes. Comparable machines mould bib cocks, angle cocks, health faucet parts, hand showers and cistern fittings, subject to the mould and material.
