Injection Moulding Machine for Helmet Visors and Face Shields

Helmet visors and face shields are moulded in optical-grade PC on horizontal injection moulding machines with polished, mirror-finish moulds. Visor area and curvature set the clamping force, and wall thickness sets shot size. Optical quality matters most: a slow, well-packed fill with low moulded-in stress keeps distortion and haze out of the viewing area.

For visors, machine selection looks at stable injection control, platen size for a wide curved tool and enough clamp for full-face designs. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for visor and face shield production and can recommend a configuration for your visor and mould.

Machine Requirements for Helmet Visor Moulding

Visor moulding is optical work, where clarity and distortion in the viewing area decide acceptance. A machine for it should offer:

  • Repeatable injection speed profile to keep flow lines out
  • Gate at a non-viewing edge, trimmed after moulding
  • Dried optical PC with short barrel residence time
  • Platen area for wide, deeply curved visor tools
  • Ejection on edge tabs, away from the optical face
  • Clean hopper and material handling to keep specks out

Recommended Machine for Helmet Visors

Visor size sets the machine. Smaller face shields and sun visors can run on the E Series (75-180 T), and full-face visors with wide curved tools suit the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T). Very large visors needing more force than these series are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What visor and face shield makers ask most about moulding optical PC.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Helmet Visors?
Smaller shields and internal sun visors often fit an E Series machine. Full-face visors with wide, curved moulds move to the C or H Series, and larger sizes are reviewed on request with the mould details.
  • Are Anti-fog and Anti-scratch Coatings Applied on the Machine?
No. Hard coat and anti-fog layers go on after moulding as a separate coating process, in-house or at a subcontractor. Moulded visors must reach coating clean and low in stress, or the coating can craze the PC.
  • What Causes Distortion and Haze in Moulded Visors?
Distortion usually comes from moulded-in stress and uneven packing, haze from moisture or degraded PC. Drying, a controlled fill speed, adequate holding pressure and mould temperature control keep refraction and light transmission within the buyer’s test limits.
  • Are Visor Pivots and Vents Made in the Same Mould?
Usually not. Pivot mechanisms, sun visor slides and vent parts are small separate tools, often in POM or nylon, and run on smaller machines than the visor itself.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Helmet Visor?
Yes. Share the visor drawing or sample, PC grade, part weight, mould dimensions, cavity count and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Helmet and Sports Safety Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. The same machines can mould sport goggle frames, helmet vent and pivot hardware, shin guard shells and water bottle caps, though non-optical parts need a different process setting.
