Injection Moulding Machine for Marker Barrels, Caps and End Plugs

Marker barrels, caps and end plugs are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines using multi-cavity tools, mainly in PP, PS and ABS. Nib and ink reservoir are fibre parts and are not moulded. Cavity count and barrel length set machine size, while the cap seal decides whether the marker passes its cap-off test.

Machine selection for marker parts focuses on a resin that resists the ink solvent and a cap seal moulded to the same size in every cavity. For marker barrels, caps and plugs, Pratishna Engineers supplies hybrid and horizontal injection moulding machines and can recommend a configuration for each part.

Machine Requirements for Marker Moulding

A marker is judged by whether the tip stays wet with the cap on, so seal geometry leads the brief. Points to check when selecting a machine:

  • Barrel resin checked against the ink solvent over shelf life
  • Cap seal geometry held tight across every cavity
  • Flash-free sealing lip inside the cap
  • End plug press fit that stays put in the barrel
  • Thicker barrel walls packed without sink at the grip
  • Separate or family moulds for barrel, cap and plug

Recommended Machine for Markers

Marker parts are small, but the barrel is wider and heavier than a pen barrel, so shot weight per mould climbs quickly with cavities. The Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) suits many cap and barrel moulds. Smaller plug tools may run in the E Series (75-180 T), and long high-cavity barrel tools in the H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions marker makers bring up most when planning moulds and machines.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Markers?
Horizontal machines, chosen per part. Cap and barrel tools often fit the Hybrid PH Series, end plug tools the E Series, and long barrels in high-cavity tools the C or H Series.
  • Which Parts of a Marker Are Injection Moulded?
Barrel, cap, end plug and any clip. The nib is fibre or felt and the ink reservoir is a fibre bundle, so neither comes from the moulding machine.
  • Why Does the Barrel Material Depend on the Ink?
Marker ink carries solvent that can attack some plastics over shelf life, causing stress cracking or swelling. Some clear grades fail on this count, so barrel resin is chosen against the ink first and appearance second.
  • How Does the Cap Keep a Marker From Drying Out?
A sealing lip inside the cap closes around the nib housing. If shrinkage, flash or a worn core changes that lip, air gets in and the marker fails the cap-off test, so the seal is the dimension to control.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Marker?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of the barrel, cap and end plug, material, ink type, part weights, mould sizes, cavity numbers and required output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend suitable machines.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Stationery Parts Too?
Yes. Machines in this range can also mould pen barrels, pen caps, glue stick barrels and pen stands, subject to mould size and shot weight.
