Injection Moulding Machine for Textile Cones

Textile cones, the tapered winding and dye cones that carry yarn packages, are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from PP copolymer, PP-GF or ABS. Cone length sets the mould height and opening stroke, while cavities and shot weight set the tonnage. Because the taper must match the winder, core alignment and even wall thickness matter most.

Machine selection for cones centres on opening stroke for long cores, shot capacity across the cavities and repeatable holding pressure that keeps the taper on size. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for textile cone production and can recommend a configuration for your cone and mould.

Machine Requirements for Textile Cone Moulding

A cone is judged on its taper and its winding surface, so the machine and mould setting work toward these points:

  • Taper angle held to the winder specification
  • Long cores kept central for even wall and low eccentricity
  • Winding surface free of flash, weld ridges and gate witness
  • Opening stroke long enough to strip the cone off its core
  • Recycled PP lots checked for melt flow before use
  • Shot capacity matched to cavity count and cone weight

Recommended Machine for Textile Cones

Smaller cones in multi-cavity moulds often run on the E Series (75-180 T). Longer cones, dye cones and higher cavity counts need more opening stroke and clamping force, which points to the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T). The shut height of the mould and the cone length together decide which frame fits.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions spinning and winding mills ask most often before ordering a cone moulding machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Textile Cones?
A horizontal machine with enough opening stroke for the cone length. Smaller cones in multi-cavity tools often fit the E Series, while long dye cones and larger moulds move up to the C or H Series.
  • Why Does the Cone Taper Go Out of Tolerance?
Usually from core shift during filling, uneven cooling between core and cavity, or drifting holding pressure. Gating at the small end, a supported core and a steady mould temperature keep the angle and eccentricity within the winder limits.
  • Can Recycled PP Be Used for Textile Cones?
Recycled PP can be used, often blended with virgin material. Melt flow varies between lots, so cone weight and taper should be checked after each lot change and the blend kept constant for a given cone size.
  • Are Paper Cones Made on the Same Machine?
No. Paper cones are wound and pressed from paperboard on converting lines, not moulded. Plastic cones are injection moulded and can be reused, which suits mills that get cones back from the dye house or customer.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Textile Cone?
Yes. Share the cone drawing or sample, taper angle, length, material, part weight, number of cavities, mould size and monthly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Textile Parts Too?
Yes. The same class of machine can mould bobbins, spools, perforated dye tubes and fabric roll end plugs, subject to the mould and part size.
