Injection Moulding Machine for Cartridge End Caps and Media Retainers

Cartridge end caps and media retainers are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, often in high-cavity moulds, from food-contact PP. Cavity count, the flat projected area of each cap and short cooling-led cycles decide the machine size. Even shrinkage matters most, so every cap meets the media and weld face the same way.

For end caps, machine selection looks at stable cycles over long runs, hot runner support and repeatable cap size from cavity to cavity. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for filter cartridge caps and can propose a configuration for your cap range.

Machine Requirements for Cartridge End Cap Moulding

End caps sell in large numbers, and leak-past usually starts at a cap that shrank differently from the rest. Look for:

  • Flat cap faces without warpage for welding to the media
  • Consistent shrinkage so cap bore and diameter stay in size
  • Hot runner control across high-cavity cap moulds
  • Clean slot edges on retainers with no flash
  • Food-contact PP grades with controlled masterbatch use
  • Short, repeatable cycles set by cooling time

Recommended Machine for Cartridge End Caps

End caps and retainers are light, shallow parts, so tonnage comes from the number of cavities and the runner. Hybrid PH (120-140 T) and E Series (75-180 T) machines cover many cap moulds. High-cavity hot runner tools, or caps for large-diameter cartridges, need H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T) machines.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What cartridge makers ask us most before they buy a machine for caps and retainers.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Cartridge End Caps?
Cap size and cavity count set the tonnage. Smaller caps in moderate cavity moulds suit E Series or Hybrid PH machines, while large-diameter caps or high-cavity hot runner tools need the C or H Series.
  • Why Are Cartridge End Caps Moulded in PP?
PP welds or bonds to PP melt-blown, spun and pleated media, and food-contact PP grades are available for potable water. A cap in another resin will not form a sound weld with PP media.
  • What Causes Leak-Past at the End Cap?
Leak-past usually starts at the cap-to-media joint. Warped faces, short shots on the weld rib or oversize caps leave gaps, so mould temperature, holding pressure and cooling time must stay steady in every cavity.
  • Can One Machine Run Several Cap Sizes?
Yes, with a mould change for each size or a family mould for matched cap pairs. Check that the largest mould fits between the tie-bars and that the screw suits the smallest shot without long residence time.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Cartridge End Cap?
Yes. Share the cap and retainer drawings, PP grade, part weights, mould dimensions, cavity count and yearly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Filter Cartridge and Housing Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould filter housing caps and brackets, fluid connectors, vacuum breaker parts and purifier components, depending on the mould for each part.
